The President of the Fullah Union, Tabital Pulaaku International Sierra Leone Chapter, Alhaji Amadu Juldeh Sowe, has said they want to ensure especially female beneficiaries of their scholarship programme are in sectors such as accounting, engineering, and medicine.
He was addressing the student beneficiaries of scholarships offered by the union.
Sowe said in Western countries most of the strategic sectors are dominated by women, whilst encouraging them to study hard so that they can become prominent people in the country.
He recalled how the idea of providing scholarships started 20 years back and has since produced over 300 graduates as beneficiaries of the scholarship.
According to him, every year, a minimum of at least 40 student beneficiaries graduate from university and other higher learning institutions.
After noting that he had no doubt that the beneficiaries would be exemplary in the future, he also called on them to render help to others.
He also affirmed that the scholarship will not be tribal–based, as Tabital wants to make Sierra Leone a better place for all.
President of the student beneficiaries, Abu Bakarr Bah explained how the scholarship provided by the union helped him complete his law studies at university.
Bah encouraged other students to register with the union to stand the chance of becoming recipients of the educational sponsorship scheme.
The Deputy Director of Education for the union, Alhaji S.Bah, called on the student beneficiaries to study hard for them to be promoted. He admonished them to be always humble while quoting Professor Redwood Sawyer’s saying, “Humility comes first.”
The National Organising Secretary of Tabital, Alhaji Mohamed Seray Jalloh, said awarding the scholarship portrays a lesson in helping the needy.
He said the aim of the union is to improve on the human capital development in the country and pointed out that contributions from members will make a whole lot, to help other students.
It was disclosed that the President of the Union has also organised a programme that ensures female members memorise the Holy Quran.
