Sierra Leone up 4 places in latest FIFA World rankings

The Sierra Leone Men’s national football team rose to 122nd from 126th in the latest FIFA world rankings after securing four points from two matches in the recently played African World Cup qualifiers in June.

A slow improvement also saw the national team move from 35th in Africa to 34th place.

Neighbors Liberia made the biggest climb in the latest FIFA Rankings, jumping 10 spots from 152 to 142.

SLFA postpones Ordinary Congress

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has announced the postponement of its Ordinary Congress which was initially scheduled to take place in the first week of July 2024.

A press release issued by the Association on the 24th June, 2024 stated that the decision to postpone the Congress comes in light of the prevailing court issue that has recently resulted in the closure of the SLFA premises, thereby barring the secretariat from operating.

Football fraternity mourns Coach Kaloga Bah

The football fraternity in Sierra Leone has been inundated with condolence messages and tributes on both social and traditional media following the death of one of the country's top Coaches, Abdulai Kaloga Bah. He died in the early hours of 14th June, 2024 at the Connaught hospital after a short illness.

Kaloga as he was popularly known coached FC Johansen, East End Lions, the Women's national team and recently Bhantal FC presently second in the men’s premier league table before his demise.

Bo Rangers, Mogbwemo crowned league champions

For the third consecutive season, Bo Rangers have been crowned Champions of the Sierra Leone male premier League.  Mogbwemo Queens have also lifted the Women’s premier league champions for the second time running.

Bo Rangers are said to be the first provincial team to win the league three times in a row. The other Freetown teams to have won the league three times are East End Lions in the early 1990s and Ports Authority. 

Leone Stars win against Djibouti

In their third Group A’ African World Cup qualifier, the National Team, Leone Stars defeated their opponents Djibouti by 2 goals to 1 in El Jadida, Morocco.
