A 19-year-old blind man is to represent Sierra Leone at an international quranic reading competition in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to Sheikh Fomba A.B. Swaray.
It followed Alpha Alie Jalloh emerging tops from among a shortlist of five contestants by a panel of Islamic scholars led by the Country Director of Africa Muslims Agency, Kemamine Ahmed who said he was satisfied with the selection process.
In their conclusion and recommendations, the panel said Jalloh had no match among the five candidates who were drawn from all over the country. He excelled himself in his mastery of the rules of Quranic Science: Intonation, Diacritic signs Diphthong pronunciation and echo-fluencies.
In an interview, 19-year-old Jalloh said he memorised the entire Quran at the tender age of 12 years and that he had participated in five national quranic competitions in which he always emerged the winner. However, this will be first in the historical annals of this nation for a blind or any disabled for that matter, to represent Sierra Leone at an international quranic competition.
