A trader, who sells along a prohibited area on Sani Abacha Street in Freetown, has been sentenced to a fine of Le 75, 000 or must go jail for two months.
Adama Koroma, who deals in cosmetics, was arraigned before Magistrate Davies Cole of Court No. 5 in Freetown. She was arrested with two boxes containing cosmetics at Abacha Street last Friday.
She pleaded guilty to the charges and was subsequently convicted and sentenced.
Since Operation WID was launched to clean the city of Freetown, several attempts have been made by the Freetown City Council to clear, especially the Sani Abacha Street area, which had been dominated by traders who claimed they had the president’s permission to be there.
In another matter in the same court, the Magistrate granted bail to four accused persons who allegedly stole 130 pairs of crepes from a shop on Sackville Street in Freetown. They faced a 3-count charge of conspiracy, larceny and receiving stolen property.
The stolen items, belonging to a certain Santigie Kamara, are valued at Le 4, 800,000 and were allegedly stolen on Sunday.
The four were granted bail in the sum of Le 30,000 each and one surety in like sum. The matter was adjourned to Monday January 27.
