The Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) is in preparation for its forthcoming professional boxing championship for elite fighters across the country which is scheduled to commence on 31 January 2014 at the national stadium boxing arena.
Boxers are expected to fight in six weight categories, 64kg welter weight, full welter 69kg, middle welter 75kg, and 81kg weight category. The competition will also introduce women boxing in the 56kg and 60kg as well.
Spectators will see boxers from all sectors. The army, police, fire force and prison officers will be in action.
SLBA scribe, Christian Campbell, says boxers are expected to fight for six rounds, three minutes and a minute interval, adding that the professional boxing is a new amendment in the recent rules of the association of international boxing for top fighters. He also says that professional boxing is one of the calendar actives of the association for the new season.
According to a cross-section of boxers, they are happy for such a competition as it will serve as readiness test for them to enter into international competitions.
