Thieves staged a predawn breakage into an electronics shop at 2 Cardew Street yesterday and allegedly made away with plasma television sets, laptop computers, video and digital cameras.
Shop owner, Abdul Aziz Turay could not give the exact value of stolen items, saying only that they were worth millions of Leones. He said his younger brother informed him about the incident soon after the attack and complained that he was pelted with bottles because he had raised an alarm.
Abdul said he met one flap of the door widely opened and the other closed when he arrived there later.
“Before I reached at the shop people had chased them out,” he said, adding that two of the robbers were later apprehended and some of the stolen items retrieved at the nearby Bombay Street.
“They are area boys. I know them. My shop was full and we parked some items out in the veranda,” Turay narrated in tears.
The 26-year-old businessman said he had opened the shop about three years back and was steadily living with his wife and two children, adding that his father was living in America and was sending him electronics to sell so the family responsibilities would be cushioned.
Detective police constable 13405 Wilfred Fofanah of Eastern Police said they received a report at about 3:00 am and "upon visiting the scene we realised it was breaking and larceny.” He said the items that were discovered were valued at slightly over Le 13 million.
He said many items were still missing, adding that investigation was underway to retrieve the remaining stolen items "and to bring the culprits to justice.”
The police constable said the man who received the stolen items was also in custody.
