As part of its support to worthy causes, the VEEDFLO Foundation has provided 36 vulnerable Children with school learning materials to help in their education.

The presentation was made during the launch of the foundation with the motto: ‘Creating positive mindset’ at the Armed Forces Technical and Education College (AFTEC) Wilberforce, Freetown on the 7th of October, 2023.

While presenting the foundation’s concept note, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pessie S. Marah stated that she formed the foundation on the basis of the challenges emanating from homes on a daily basis.

She said communities are now forced to accept the numerous challenges faced in society instead of putting control measures to minimize them.

According to the CEO, the foundation will affiliate with other organisations to help promote policies for improvement in education and provide educational facilities for children from humble backgrounds.

Marah said focus will also be placed on building the capacity of children and young people’s participation in nation-building, peace, and skills training opportunities for self-employment that will improve their earnings and living standard for self-reliance.

In her keynote address, Gender Analyst at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Kadiatu Bachalle-Taylor stated that most poor people are resilient and always aspire to work harder. She said the CEO of the foundation has realized her dream of helping vulnerable children.

She advised parents to stop referring to their children as ‘thieves’ as she said that will give the children a negative mindset and should instead inspire them to become meaningful and responsible persons in society.

She explained that mentoring young vulnerable children brings them closer to society and sees the foundation as a vehicle that will contribute to promoting education in the country and building the children’s careers.

One of the beneficiaries, Samuel Koroma from Government Secondary Technical School expressed gratitude to the donors upon receipt of the school items and appealed for continued support.

Another beneficiary, Kadiatu Daboh from Services Secondary School, Wilberforce said she was delighted with the gifts which she said will boost her education.  She encouraged other vulnerable children not to drop out of school.

The VeEdFlo foundation named after the CEO’s children; Veronica, Edna, and Flora, was established on the 15th of November 2022.
