COFA set for Non-Division League

The Central One Football Association (COFA) is set to begin its Non-Division League on 3rd August, with 40 teams at the Parade Grounds.

Defending Champions Malcolm Football Club will engage Portuguese Town Football Club, in the opening match.

COFA Chairman Sammah Sesay said they have no sponsors at the moment but "we don’t want to wait until we have sponsors we are moving ahead as we are used to. This year’s non-division league is going to be very interesting as most of the communities are sending in their junior teams. Competition is keen at that level", he said.

According to COFA over seventy teams applied to be part of the competition but only forty were accepted with the rest rejected for their attitude to previous competitions, particularly in the area of not honoring fixtures and unruly behavior.

The COFA boss said new teams have joined the competition because "we want to take the non-division league to the community level...previously most teams did not have supporters. It was a person approach... some matches were played with no supporters in the field, so as a result of that we decided to involve some community junior teams".

He said plans are at an advanced stage to improve the Parade Grounds by erecting a perimeter fence, seating facility and demolishing dwellings around the field.

Organizing Secretary Mohamed Yapo Sillah said the rules of the competition would be strictly enforced this year.
