Police in Pujehun have confirmed a report made to them against the Chairman of the Pujehun District Council, Sadiq Sillah.
The head of the Family Support Unit, Constable Lahai Koroma told Politico that they received a complaint yesterday and that a medical form had been issued to the complainant whom he said had a swollen face an eye with blood clot. He said they were investigating the matter.
Suckling mother, Mamie Sillah told Politico that the Sadiq “seriously gave me a heavy slap and kicked my back side" and that he continued beating her for long.
Mamie, the aunt-in-law of the council chairman alleged that she was beaten because she had gone to find out why a family member of hers schooling in Pujehun had been asked by Mr Sillah to leave his house. She said the chairman would not listen which she said resulted in her beating.
Mamie alleged that that was the third time that the council chairman had beaten her up. Her husband Mustapha Sillah who is chief of Fonikor, also expressed disgust to Politico over the beating of his wife. Speaking from Freetown, he said he utterly abhor this action by his own nephew and called for justice.
Sadiq confirmed the allegation of beating as true saying “I will continue to do so if she continues to serve as a perennial problem in my marital home". He told Politico that Mamie had been insulting him, adding that for the past two years she had created an “unpleasant relationship" between him and his wife who lives in the US.
The council chairman said that plans had been finalised for him to marry a second wife unbeknown to his first wife, adding that two days to the marriage Mamie made a phone call to his wife in America informing her about the planned second wedding. She said his wife flew in country and disrupted the wedding.
On why he had asked the girl to leave his house, he said she had become disrespectful to him because he had identified her as one of those admitted to HRSS school without the prerequisite qualifications.
