The much anticipated draw for the West Africa Football Union (WAFU ) U-17 tournament that was to have taken place on Monday 7th December has been postponed. The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) in a press release stating the postponement, did not give reasons for that, or any new date, but said it will be communicated to the public in due course. Home Suites hotel at Aberdeen in Freetown was where the draw would have taken place.
The (WAFU) Zone A U- 17 tournament is to be held in Freetown, Sierra Leone from 11- 20th December this year. Six nations namely, Senegal, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Mauritania and Sierra Leone are to participate in the tourney.
However with this latest development, it is unclear whether the matches will commence as scheduled. The continent is divided into zones and two countries qualify from each zone that would eventually guarantee their participation in the U-17 African Cup of Nations competition which is to take place in Morocco next year.
It would be recalled that the U-20 team for Sierra Leone, Shooting Stars, were thrashed 2-1 by the Scorpions of the Gambia having drawn their first match in their U-20 WAFU competition with the hosts, Senegal last month. They only secured a point.
