Presiding magistrate of Court No. 2 in Freetown yesterday committed to the High Court for trial the matter of alleged fraud involving one Sulaiman Kargbo who claimed he was a lawyer named M.S. Kargbo.
The accused is alleged to have posed as an attorney for clients Tamba Sulaiman Chendeka and Alhaji Musa Sheriff, both of whom were also before the court for allegedly duping an Indian diamond dealer, Mayour Patel over Le 400 million.
The accused was charged with nine counts of conspiracy to commit felony, unqualified person practicing as a legal practitioner, causing money to be paid with intention to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences.
The transaction, involving a 14.9-carat diamond, was said to have taken place on different dates between 1 September, 2012 and 13 May, 2013.
The magistrate ruled that there was enough evidence against the accused for which he should be tried in the upper court “as the first prosecution witness even tendered a document from your so-called chambers”.
He said he was convinced by the evidence of the three witnesses brought in by the prosecution and “I therefore commit you to the High Court for trial on all counts”.
