The incumbent president of the Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association Kelvin Ezekiel Kelly has announced that he will not be contesting any position in the coming elective congress of the association, re-scheduled for the 3rd of May.
Kelly, who was speaking at the Atlantic Hall of the national stadium, said he wanted "to give another person whom the delegates trust, the opportunity to run the Association in the coming years.
He described his tenure of office as "very challenging... and it is not easy to run an association like this without the cooperation of business houses...we made several approaches to them but all that proved fruitless".
The outgoing president said "most times the association is unable to take part in international competitions due to lack of sponsorship from corporate houses in the country". He said despite that, he loves tennis and would always stand ready to assist the association when called upon.
Kelly said "I will always be ready to serve the Lawn Tennis family in every shape of form". Meanwhile delegates to the recent congress set up an interim body to "normalise a few issues" before the elective congress on the 3rd of May
