The yearly Lunsar cycling that always showcases riders’ talents has ended in Kono.
Mohamed L. Kamara of the Lunsar Cycling Team emerged victorious for the men’s. Minkailu Malam Conteh and Sorie Koroma came second and third respectively. In the women’s category, Blessing Jabbie from the Kono cycling team topped after competing against three of her teammates .
For Blessing, this victory serves as a further progress towards her main objective of winning the women’s event at the SiS Tour de Lunsar next year. She was third in the 2022 edition.
The race began in a relatively calm fashion, but following the day’s designated climb point where the attacks began to fly, Abu Sheik Sesay of Lunsar cycling team won the race.
As the race settled down, four riders from Lunsar cycling team were clear of their chasers and came home to seal a memorable result for the team.
Mohamed Bangura, who was the highest placed Kono Cycling Team rider, was fifth.
The cycling race was an important training exercise for riders from both teams as each organization wants to continue the growth of their respective athletes ahead of the SiS Tour de Lunsar next year.
Banta Sesay one of the organizers of the Lunsar Cycling was keen to thank Kono Cycling Team.
He said after the race; “We are grateful to Kono cycling team for hosting this event, we thank them for their wonderful hospitality and for the opportunity to measure the progress of our riders against those from other teams.”
Last year’s Lunsar cycling commenced from the 25-27 March, 2022. The event last year was intended to showcase the talent of Sierra Leonean cyclists as they connect, learn and impact their own knowledge onto riders from all around Africa and the rest of the world.
