The manager of first division football team Orthodox FC has condemned the behavior of the club’s Secretary General towards match officials after their team’s match against Eagles United on Friday 10th December at the main bowl of the Siaka Steven Stadium.
King David Kargbo said his management accepted that ‘Prince Samuel Coker (aka D Guru) attacked the match official and some tense argument ensued. The quarrel ended up in a fight between Prince and the match official. That fight resulted in some physical damage to the match official’.
He said: ‘we say sorry to the affected match official and we promise to follow up with his medication as best as we can’. In a letter widely shared on social media, Kargbo noted that his club was ‘not proud of the fact that issues like this are linked with us and we want to say we are deeply sorry for any inconveniences it may have caused in whatever way. As a team, we are emphatically condemning the action of Prince Samuel Coker and we pronounce our dissatisfaction with his professionalism and game spirit’.
Kargbo described Orthodox Football Club as ‘a very respectable club with positive influence on not only our young players, but also to other kids around the country. So, such an unfortunate character is not and should not be in our books. We are assuring the entire public and all affected parties that disciplinary actions will be taken against Prince Samuel Coker internally’
Meanwhile Coker has released a statement on social media saying he was ‘embarrassed’ for failing to ‘show a good example to the football family’. He said his actions were ‘inappropriate, and I failed to show maturity and professionalism to my team, the Referees Association, colleagues and the whole football family. As I acted out of pressure and also was carried away by the game due to the passion I have for football’.
As we went to press there was no word from the Western Area Football Association which organized the match.
