President Julius Maada Bio on Monday 31st May commissioned a new private hospital in Bo with the theme: Increasing Access to Medical facilities for Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Member of Parliament Dickson Rogers who is the hospital proprietor said his move is to support the commitment made by President Bio in 2019 at the State Opening of Parliament that improving on the health sector is one of his priority areas.
He said many people wanted him to open a hotel and an entertainment center but that he ended up with the hospital project to help women and children.
Rogers said his dream is to ensure that people do not leave Sierra Leone to seek medical attention outside but want foreign nationals to come to Sierra Leone for medication.
He added that the Mamasa hospital has trained and qualified health workers with 100 bedrooms, maternity department, staff quarter, a resource center for staff, ambulance services and a bus service to transport staff.
He thanked the Kendeyama community for providing the land and cleaning the hospital every week. He said the hospital is for the community, people of Bo, and the country at large and asked all to be watchdogs.
Minister of Health and Sanitation Dr. Austin Demby who chaired the ceremony said as a government, they were happy to see such a magnificent hospital that serves the people. He said his government will give the hospital the needed support.
Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay acknowledged the strides by the Member of Parliament. He said that two transformers have been erected at the community to ensure the community lit up and the hospital runs smoothly.
In his statement, President Julius Maada Bio said he was happy to be part of the event which he described as history-making. He said the hospital was not built by the government but by an individual who believed in helping his people.
President Bio said Rogers did not build the hospital in his constituency in Pujehun district but in Bo to help the people of Sierra Leone.
He said all over the world, the government cannot do everything but individuals also have the responsibility to ensure that they contribute to the development of their countries and that is what exactly the MP has done.
He asked on other well-meaning Sierra Leoneans to emulate Rogers and promised the community people that his government will pave the road and the nurses be given pin codes.
