Pujehun probes pregnant woman’s death

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Police in Pujehun Town is currently investigating the death of a 45-year- old pregnant woman, Juma Koroma who died at the Pujehun Government hospital after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband’s relatives.  

Speaking to Politico through telephone, the Head of Police Media in Pujehun district, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Kanawa John Square said four people: Baindu Fogbawa, Martha Baio, Musu Fogbawa, and Skeku Jaiah are in Police custody helping with investigations in relation to the matter.

The Police media officer said the incident based on report occurred on the 6th of June but that it was only reported to them on Thursday 23rd June this year by one Abdul Koroma, husband of the deceased who resides in Mogboto Village in the Kua Menbai Chiefdom, Bonthe district.

He said the deceased was immediately issued a medical paper but that she died hours later (on the same day the matter was reported) at the Pujehun maternity hospital. He added that there was a delay in reporting the matter to the police.

"The woman (deceased) is a native of Makoba village in the Galiness Chiefdom, Pujehun District.  She was taken to Kua Menbai Chiefdom in the Bonthe District by her husband Abdul Koroma.  According to Story, the deceased used to have some confrontations with the relatives of the husband", ASP Square narrated.

He said four people who are directly involved with the matter are in their custody while the two chiefs who were accused of trying to compromise the matter are helping the police in their investigation. He assured that whoever is named will be probed.

Juma’s remains, according to officer Square, were laid to rest on Sunday, 26th June   in her home chiefdom of Galiness Perri in Pujehun district. Politico could not reach the relatives of the deceased on phone due to connection issues.
