Shooting Stars to Battle Guinea

The national Under 20 team, Shooting Stars are undergoing intensive training ahead of the African Youth Championship to be held in Dakar, Senegal. They host their Guinean counterparts in the first leg in the preliminary round on the 5th April at Wusum Field in Makeni.

Thirty two (32) home-based players from different football clubs across the country are in the squad now training at the SLFA football academy in Freetown.

Charlie Wright, assistant Coach of U-20 told this press that they've been training for the past few weeks and praised the commitment of his players to the game. He said "Most of them are doing well in mastering the system we want to play against Guinea taking into consideration the rivalry between this two countries".

Asked about the selection of players and  their motivation, Wright said, "it's fine for the moment as the authorities are doing well for the players and the 25 players were selected based on performance not on sentiment". The coach said the squad is "full of players with potentials and they look poised to see most them forming the bulk of the national team soon".

The match will be played in Makeni. northern Sierra Leone, at the Weekend.
