This year's Amputee Soccer Gala sponsored by the mobile phone company, Airtel starts on 7th November at the National Stadium. At a formal launching ceremony at Airtel headquarters in Freetown, the company's Corporate Affairs officer, June-Rose Johnson said her company was pleased to support the three-day gala because it demonstrates that there is "Ability in Disability".
Johnson said Amputees in Sierra Leone had taken part in both local and international competitions as well which she said, explains why "we thought it fit that we should help them in whatever way we can despite the fact that they informed us late".
She said the gala is part of a fund-raising effort for the Sierra Leone Amputee team's participation in an international tournament in Kenya and that they have contacted football stakeholders in the country to be part of the competition.
The president of the Amputee Association Jabati Mambu said he was happy for Airtel's support Airtel saying it will go a long way to prepare them for the competition in Kenya.
He said, ‘’this gala will serve a trials for players that will be selected to be part of the national team to play in Kenya". Mambu said 15 players and 7 officials will travel to Kenya.
