Premier League side Freetonians SLIFA has urged the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to put the league on hold, claiming bad refereeing in the ongoing premier league.
The club cited its premiere league match against Ports Authority as one example poor refereeing, hence the decision not to continue.
However, a statement from the Union of Premiere League Clubs in Sierra Leone (UPLC-SL) released on the 24th January, 2023 confirmed that many clubs in the SLPL have suffered the same poor and unfair officiating Freetonians SLIFA reported about.
The union condemned what it referred to as the high level of unfair and poor officiating of matches and requested for professionalism amongst referees in the process of executing their task.
It urged the management of Freetonians SLIFA to have a rethink of their decision as they look at amicably resolving the matter to prevent future occurrences.
But the union condemned club officials who are in the habit of targeting officials as they discharge their duties. It calls for the game of football to be played in a decent manner without fear or favour.
