The Confederation of African Volleyball Ball (CAVB) has nominated the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association (SLVA) as a Model African Federation.
A letter addressed to SLVA on the 16th October by the President of CAVB Dr. Amr Elwani which reads "The FIVB as is the custom at Congress request each confederation to nominate a Model National Federation to present its activities, achievements and plans to congress. Given your active participation, your diligent and tireless efforts to ensure development and success in all facets of your game and track record, I have the honour and confidence to advise you that we are nominating you as the model Federation for the CAVB…”
The letter went further to state that a slot will be given to SLVA to make a presentation at the FIVB congress in Cagliari, Italy, were they will outline their achievements and activities over the past two years, their development philosophy and outlook for the future.
“…The report shall also encapsulate your interrelation with the Zone, the CAVB and FIVB and how you have leveraged from their programs”.
According to the SLVA Secretary General Ahmed Khanou, the FIVB has approved a 4000 - seater project for an outdoor facility to be built at the national stadium and the equipment will be shipped to Freetown in twoweeks time. "It will be used for any indoor sport, that is why we are building it in the area around the basketball court so that handball players can also make use of the facility", he said.
Khanou said CAVB has also approved a School Volleyball project prepared by his organisation, because "it is not enough for us to be only playing top ranking volleyball we have to prepare the young people to come forward and CAVB has already released 2000 volleyballs and training equipment."
The Secretary General said the project will run for four years and "by that time it is expected to have produced between 500 to 1000 actively involved volleyball players who will take part in at least junior and youth level volleyball for international competitions."
