SLVA Outlines Plans for 2015

By Kemoh Sesay

The Technical Director of the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association Mohamed Vangahun has described 2014 as a successful year for the sport in Sierra Leone, noting that 2015 'is packed with activities and we have forwarded our plan of activities to the Ministry of Sports.'

He said in the coming weeks they have the African Olympic qualifiers and the sub- zonal championship to be hosted by Senegal in February for both men and women in both indoor and beach volleyball as well, the U-21 African World Championship qualifiers in Egypt, scheduled for March in the male and female categories.

Vangahun said they will also launch the kids volleyball project which will involve schools across the country in a project that was approved last year by CAVB but has been delayed because of the outbreak of the Ebola disease.

He also mentioned a training programm they have planned for all volleyball administrators nationwide to improve on their skills to administer the day to day running of the association.

Vangahun revealed that the qualifiers for the all African Games for beach and indoor volleyball to be hosted in Congo Brazzaville have brought forward to February instead of September 2015. He said, 'we will prioritise some of the international competitions and not enter for all.'

Asked about sponsorship for their activities, Vangahun, 'because of our positive performance in the development in the country we believe we will get sponsorship...we have those like Africel and Mercury International who have been helping...we believe that we will get support from them again.'
