By Kemoh Sesay and Crispina Taylor

Hassan Sesay, MP, is now the chairman of the parliamentary oversight committee for sport. He told Politico was delighted about his appointment because 'I love sports and I am keenly interested in football and my priority is to unify the football family as football is the most popular sport in the country.'

He said he would also establish 'a good working relationship with other sporting disciplines because they also play a key role in the nations development.'

Hon. Sesay said he will be more proactive in collaborating with the ministry of sport and the SLFA to see that peace prevails in Sierra Leone football. But he acknowledged that the task would be difficult. He said, 'I will not make any resolute statement in working with the stakeholders as they are the key components in modern football administration.'

The MP said he needs to 'get a better understanding of what is going on with all the sporting discipline in the country and we will see what will happen because my vision is to see the national team qualify again for AFCON tournaments.'

The Deputy minister of sports Ishamel AL Sankoh  Conteh described the appointment Hon. Sesay's appointment as a welcome news for the sports ministry because 'we are ready to work with him as Chairman of the parliamentary oversight committee for sports...he has vast knowledge in sports and he has experience working with young people and that is an added advantage for him to succeed as chairman.'
