MAYOR KEMOKAI OF FREETOWN AND THE NEXT THREE WEEKS
We don’t know where this inquiry into the workings of the FCC would end but we can surely say that there is now a big risk that Mayor Kemokai may be made to confront the unintended consequences of her decision to try to force the Chief Administrator of that council out of office. Tamba from Konoland has put a SIX person team in place with a clear instruction to investigate all the issues raised by the Tolongbo Council against the Chief Administrator for which they want him out of office.
We understand that Mayor Kemokai took his councilors to Tolongbo headquarters and they agreed to work as one to remove the CA. We note however that the deputy Mayor was not amused and let that be known in an audio that was leaked on social media. He then tried to clarify and pull back from some of his comments but that was an exercise in futility. Obviously, Tolongbo headquarters put a lot of pressure on him. They hate the slightest dissent.
We have also heard from the CA at the center of all this. He proved to the nation that at the very least, he deserves to be listened to. This investigating team will do that.
Is the Mayor still on holiday? She made a big social media splash about going to meet her husband after a long break. We have no problem with that. In fact we like the message about public officers spending time with their families. However, we want Mayor Kemokai to return to Freetown now and cooperate fully with the investigating team.
Among many other things we want the investigating team to pay attention to the following issues:
1. MAYOR’S DELIVERY TEAM: Mayor Kemokai was part of a team brought to State House under King Messi to work in what was called President’s Delivery Team. It was a project to help roll out King Messi’s post-Ebola programs. We don’t know how things went there but on taking over the FCC, Mayor Kemokai decided to set up her own delivery team.
The investigators should probably look at the legal position of that outfit within the FCC. We also want to know how they operated having regard to functions already being performed by the original and experienced council staff.
We want to know the cost of that unit: their salaries and other benefits. All this must be done with the other FCC staff in mind.
2. The good people of Sierra Leone would also want to know about the working relationship between the so-called DELIVERY TEAM and the rest of the council staff.
3. We hope there are people in this team with some good background in money matters. We have heard a lot of allegations here and there. Let’s get to the bottom of all this and we hope the work of the committee will be open for people like us to see them at work.
4. The Mayor and her Tolongbo council asked for the CA to be removed. He may well be transferred in the end because things are likely to go really sour between him and the councilors. Be that as it may, let the committee do what they have to do now to put the FCC in a good position going forward.
STEALING FOURAH BAY COLLEGE LAND MUST END NOW
Another push is underway to stop the continuous stealing of land belonging to Fourah Bay College. If the stealing continues at the current rate the college will be squeeze into the space it now occupies with private homes sharing fence with some classrooms and administrative buildings in a matter of a decade. What that would look like in terms of the proper functioning of the college is something we don’t want to imagine.
Those stealing FBC land don’t respect the law. They believe they can do anything and get away with it. They are very well organized – they have lawyers, they have trained thugs with deadly weapons, they have journalists to portray them as victims rather than land grabbers and they have corrupt politicians who believe they should do ANYTHING to get votes, including supporting such criminal activity.
Fourah Bay College can cry as much as they want but without doing things practically, on the ground, this yearly ritual of going on TV and complaining about this and that would continue. They know what we mean by practical things on the ground – they should simply build a wall initially in the areas witnessing the biggest encroachment and eventually the whole place.
They should immediately block off all illegal access points into the campus. These days we here about cars being stolen on FBC campus in broad daylight, that is so because anybody can just turn up on campus and blend in with normal students. There is nothing to distinguish them and people are not obliged to explain their presence on the campus.
We call for all taxis and Okadas taking students to and from campus MUST be registered to stop the riders’ criminal tendencies of particularly the Okada Riders. There will only be a little respite on that campus when Leicester road is completed.
WHERE ARE WE NOW WITH THE SUICIDAL LOVER BOY OF PUJEHUN?
If you are reading about this lover boy for the first time, let’s bring you up to speed with what this is about. A video recently appeared on social media of a man embarking on the most bizarre enterprise ever imagined. A young guy in Pujehun in the south of the land that we love stabbed himself as a small crowd looked on. We’re told that he attempted to take his own life because his girlfriend decided to end their relationship.
Our sources told us later that medical workers took him to hospital and doctors were able to save his life. Now we want to see him in court so we can cover his trial for attempted suicide and whatever else state lawyers charge him with.
It’s not always a good idea to judge people before hearing their own side of a particular story. That’s why we’ve been waiting for details all this while or a court date. In the meantime let’s try and suggest what we think might have pushed a man, possibly in his twenties to such extreme action.
1. He genuinely loves the girl but it is also possible another man has made some inroads into the lady’s heart and she was beginning to slip through the fingers of our suicidal friend.
2. Actually Brother Romeo wanted to do this as a way of erasing all doubts from the woman’s mind that he LOVES her.
3. Maybe what we just described above actually happened in his dream and he woke up convincing himself the dream might come true. So why not end the madness on planet earth and return to his maker.
4. He was probably high on Kush. Let’s encourage Dr. Edward Nahim to take some samples.
5. He didn’t plan how he would spend his time in a prison cell or even think about what the lady would be up to during his incarceration. We will not allow this case to die. The state MUST prosecute.
