SMILING MAYOR KEMOKAI AT KROO BAY DISASTER ZONE
Our Mayor visited that troubled corner of Freetown known as Kroo Bay. The official account says she went there to sympathize with people made homeless and penniless by a recent fire outbreak in that slum. But if anybody concludes that she was there for an early Christmas celebration based on the pictures we saw on social media, we will forgive them. Mayor Kemokai was smiling all the way. Actually, all we want to do here is to remind her that was standing in a disaster zone and we expected a mood that conveyed that very serious message. We like people who smile most of the time but surely a fire disaster that leaves, according to reports, FIVE HUNDRED people destitute is definitely NOT something to smile about.
In the recent German election the ruling party candidate lost. Part of the reason is that the guy was seen laughing on a visit to a place seriously damaged by floods. It was described as the LAST LAUGH. Now he is struggling to build a coalition to keep his party as the senior partner in the coalition government. So, is this Mayor Kemokai’s LAST SMILE?
MEANWHILE THE SMALL MATTER OF THOSE STRAY DOGS IN FREETOWN
This week the country’s attention was focused on the very serious disease called RABIES caused mainly by DOGS. We don’t want to bother with the grim statistics about people treated for RABIES in the last year or so. What we will not run away from however is the huge number of dogs, particularly the stray ones roaming this great city of ours. This is something our Mayor is not even talking about.
Dealing with stray dogs is not easy in this country but we just can’t see what the FCC has done in FOUR years of this Mayor to convince us a credible plan was in place for that. Instead of spending so much money treating people for RABIES, we should make sure that all dogs are owned by somebody and they should be registered with FCC for a fee. FCC or their agents should find a home for stray dogs or put them down. That’s it.
