DAMAGING ELECTRICITY INSTALLATIONS STILL ON
Once again we are seeing pictures of vandalized electricity installations in some parts of the Freetown on social media. We can say without hesitation that this is no more about theft. This is complete sabotage by criminals employed by people who fervently believe that throwing Freetown into darkness is the best campaign material they have going into an election that is more than two years away. How else can we explain this? At the risk of being electrocuted or at worst being caught, mercilessly beaten and jailed, young people with a future ahead leave their homes in the dead of night to vandalize electricity transformers so that their paymasters can run to social media and shamelessly complain about Freetown being “the darkest city in the world”.
The information we have is that a total of 57 transformers have now been targeted and the consequences are all over Freetown and the peninsula. So government money earmarked for other frontline functions are now being diverted to buying or repairing those transformers just to provide electricity for the good of Sierra Leone. We can’t understand the extent to which criminal politicians can go to get power. We also don’t understand how low some young people can go to allow themselves to be used for some criminality by the same people that have wrecked this country and meanwhile their own children are getting education in western countries hoping to return soon to take over from their parents in the big offices of state.
At the risk of repeating ourselves, we want to tell Agba Kanja that he is in danger of losing public support in this struggle if all he does is complain on social media. The idea that criminals can be so bold to go all over the place attacking electricity transformers so brazenly even with all the threats of imprisonment is one that many are refusing to even think of. Agba Kanja should not create the impression that he is weak and totally unable to tackle a criminal action that is giving him and the New Direction a VERY BAD NAME. If we have to deploy the army to safeguard the people’s property, we should NOT hesitate to do that.
By the way, we DON’T NEED any special court for such crimes. These are normal criminal trials that should take place daily from the moment accused people are arraigned. We know we are dealing with serious criminal sabotage but let’s use the normal courts.
THE SO-CALLED SLFA ETHICS COMMITTEE SHOULD RESIGN NOW
Why the so- called ethics committee of the SLFA has decided to be so personally involved in trying to influence the coming SLFA election in favor of the Queen absolutely beats our imagination. They started out by disqualifying the most powerful threat to the illegal regime of the Queen in the shape of RODNEY MICHAEL on bogus grounds. They asked him to challenge their decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Zurich, underestimating his resolve to take up that challenge by spending his last cent to clear his name. In the interim they forced the appeals committee in Freetown to close the last channel open to Michael to challenge their stupid decision by saying they had no jurisdiction in the matter. In disqualifying Michael they cited a similar action in 2013, a decision that was in fact overturned by an appeals committee of the same SLFA. One of the characters in the 2013 decision is now in the appeals committee, yet they told us they had no jurisdiction in the matter.
CAS has now asked the SLFA to reinstate Michael’s candidacy and instead of preparing for the coming disgrace of CAS overturning their BAD HEART decision, they are telling friends in little corners that their last card would be to cancel the whole process on the eve of election and force FIFA to set up a cruel normalization committee that will be handpicked by the Queen. That committee would then play the same undemocratic trick their 2013 predecessors played to keep Queen Johansen in office.
We serve notice that as a newspaper we will continue to shine the light on a committee that has lost its way to the extent that we have to ask them why they are now weeping more than the bereaved. The good people of Sierra Leone will not allow the Queen to remain in office and continue to kill our football. When the so-called ethics committee decides to be unethical in dealing with us, we are ready to expose all their plans and force them to resign. The CAS decision in favor of Micheal is the final nail in their coffin not just in the SLFA matter but for the national reputation going forward. We are watching this so-called ethics committee closely.
KUSH BOYS UNDER FIRE AT BERWICK STREET
When we highlighted the issue of a growing KUSH CULTURE at the lower end of Berwick Street leading to Krootown the other day we were expecting to be ignored in the same way people in public offices try to ignore us all the time. It turned out that the police actually raided the place in the last few days forcing the open taking of KUSH to stop, at least for now. Well done Pa Sovula. Our sources say they have experienced some peace since that raid but they don’t think just one raid is enough.
In fact we have been informed by our sources that the PUSHER MAN has moved his base to a house on Jamboria Street off Krootown road. We actually did not expect any magic by the police to clear the place of those selling or using narcotics but we want this raid to be sustained and targeting only the dealers. It is because they make it available that low income guys including those garbage boys in the CLEAN SALONE project can afford to spend the little cash they make doing such a difficult job on KUSH.
So we believe the police should NOT rest at all. The people destroying our young should be chased out of their comfort zones, arrested and locked up for the longest time. Let the raids continue.
CARNIVAL IN MAKENI AS WUSUM STARS DOWN BO RANGERS
It was carnival time last Sunday evening in Makeni as the local football team; Wusum Stars squeezed past much fancied Bo Rangers 1 –Nil to go to the top of the log at least for now. Bo Rangers dominated the match but an unbelievable howler by the goalkeeper gifted the hosts a sweet victory. Wusum Stars embarked on the kind of game management we’ve not seen in a long while – in the second half one player after the other went down with off-the-ball injuries every five minutes, preparing substitutes took longer than normal so the referee lost patience and issued a yellow card to a member of their technical staff.
We can’t end this without pointing to the massive pitch invasion that took place at the end of the match. Hundreds of fans simply scaled the perimeter fence and poured into the field to celebrate the victory. Will the Premier League Board do something about that?
That perimeter fence is not able to do the job for which it was put there and there is a danger to players and match officials. This is football and those thousands of fans on that field last Sunday will one day taste defeat and question the decisions of match officials. At that point everything will be possible.
Wusum Stars had every right to celebrate that victory. They have two sharp players in attack that can destroy any defence we’ve seen in the current league. Next time you hear of any demolition job by Wusum Stars ask for the two guys in NUMBER 17 and 20.
