DECONGEST YOUYI BUILDING IMMEDIATELY

The protocols dictated to us to help fight the Coronavirus is the same as those we used in 2014 against the Ebola Virus Disease which killed over FOUR THOUSAND Sierra Leoneans. There is this strong emphasis on personal hygiene. Frankly, this is something we really don’t need to wait for any virus to alert us to nor do we need the state or WHO to tell us about it. The reality however is that we must deal with the situation we have at hand right now.

We have observed how the hand washing part of this personal hygiene requirement is being implemented and we can conclude that a lot of effort is being made by ordinary Sierra Leoneans to keep to it but the authorities at Youyi Building have something to explain to us. Here we go:

1. There is a hand washing position at the main entrance to the compound at Zonta by-pass which all visitors on foot are made to use, after three minutes’ walk to the main entrance to the building itself, another hand washing is required, another three minutes on the lift, another hand washing is rigidly enforced. Is this not just too much guys? Should we unfortunately record a single case in this country, we can’t even begin to imagine what Youyi building will look like.

2. There are many civil servants sitting in those offices who should simply be asked to stay home. There will be zero impact on the overall output of ministries. Why not send them home now and drastically cut the number of people hanging around doing nothing and with the possibility that they may infect people with the coronavirus? Or we can ask them to work for only two days a week on a rotational basis. No free salary.

3. Why can’t we try sanitizing the whole of Youyi building? Otherwise, corona or no corona please properly sanitize the lifts. Too many people use it daily. Who know?

4. While on this what was the Lands man doing on social media the other day announcing his own coronavirus protocols and ending up with the scary handshake with his deputy? We know this guy likes to be in the public eye for some unnecessary reasons but the government spoke as one on those protocols. Or is there something we should know?

5. Anyway can somebody in Youyi building do something about street food? We saw a guy with very dirty hands the other day selling tapalapa bread and butter to school children. Scary stuff!

MADAM MAYOR PLEASE SELL OUR FOOTBALL TEAM NOW

Even before the end of this SLFA football season, Mayor of the SUN, the great lover of social media should begin negotiations with all the groups that have recently come forward to buy the Freetown City Football Club over. It’s that urgent. We will hold the MAYOR personally responsible if she dithers until the team is relegated. In fact she should strike the deal now so that real cash will be injected into the squad to save it from almost certain relegation.

Let’s be honest with ourselves team management and general organization in FCFC is shambolic and that explains the mediocre display by the boys on the pitch. Whose idea was it to have a football team in the first place? Was it Mayor Morgan Heritage or some Councilors looking for a way to draw cash out our small city budget?

After all these years, the team has failed - barely managing to stay in the Premier League. We don’t think that is good enough. Here’s how we think the Mayor should proceed with ending our interest in running a football team in line with certain factors we will also discuss below.

1. There are at least FOUR really good players in the current squad including the goalkeeper. As a great lover of social media, the Mayor should put them up for sale using social media. There are teams with big money around waiting to swoop on those players.

2. Put the team itself up for sale and start talking to bidders during the brief break between the end of the first round and the start of the second. Forget about how that might affected the morale of the remaining players because they are very bad right now.

3. Not many people in this city follow the team anyway so there will be no significant political consequence for selling off this failed outfit.

4. What’s the point of holding on to a team that is as badly managed as FCFC? Here’s this example: the former manager took on Bo Rangers away in the last league. He lost the match and was later reported to have collected cash from the major financier of his opponents. He admitted receiving the money which he said was used to buy water for his players. That may be true but is that the way to run a football team? Didn’t we provide their needs on that trip?

5. Let’s sell this team and put that money into sanitation or reclaiming our burial grounds from the so-called Friends of the Dead.

“95% OF MY EXECUTIVE IS NOT SLPP” SAYS THE QUEEN

The much delayed artificial turf project for Kenema may well have hit a delay more indefinite than that which the queen thought she had brought to an end with that politically loaded ceremony recently. Weeks after that lying FIFA official pronounced the start of the project the contractors are not even in the country as we write this.

What was the QUEEN thinking when she told the gathering in Kenema among other things that 95% of people in her SLFA executive were essentially anti-SLPP but that despite all of that she landed the artificial turf in Kenema.

Senior Prefect tried very hard to take the political element out of the QUEEN’s speech but as far as we are concerned he failed woefully. In fact the good guys of the SLFA debate think Senior Prefect will end up on the wrong side of history again.

We have some concerns we want to express to our people and FIFA to prove that Sierra Leone was disgraced and thrown out of FIFA on the basis of a lie and that until we get the truth about what happened at the Sierra Leone Police Canteen at Kingtom years ago, there will be no peace in the SLFA.

1. Why was it necessary for the QUEEN to attack her colleagues in the SLFA Executive Committee in this way? Was she trying to tell Principal and the other politicians that she has always been with SLPP? Does she think people don’t know which political party pushed her into the presidency of the SLFA against all odds?

2. In one breath, the SLFA is telling FIFA about political interference in Sierra Leone football in the same breath the same SLFA openly tells the world that their decisions on football development are influenced by party politics. Come on FIFA!

3. In fact the way Kenema was humiliated over that project and others makes all that triumphalism completely unnecessary. But we understand Senior Prefect may well have encouraged the QUEEN and her SLFA bunch so he could score a political goal in Kenema. We will come to that some other time.

4. Using politics in football in this self-serving way is the hallmark of this SLFA administration. Even as we write this the QUEEN’s main backbone in her re-election bid remains that 95%. We wonder how they will respond to being thrown under the bus in this way.

5. All we can tell the QUEEN now is to find a way to land this plane called the presidency of the SLFA. There is too much turbulence around and she might crash.

YWCA MUST STAND UP AND FIGHT NOW OTHERWISE…

YWCA is an old organization that goes about its business in a quiet way, never making it to newspapers headlines even for the many good things they do in the area of education and skills training. We are continuing to shine a light on them here to encourage them to do something quickly about the fence around their property near the stadium.

Our concern is that they concentrate all their efforts inside their compound completely ignoring what happens outside. This is an extreme example of people being too quiet, all the time minding their own business.

On our way to and from the stadium at least FIVE days a week, we see MEN pouring liters and liters of urine on the full length of the wall from the main entrance to the old hall to the other gate facing the swimming pool entrance to the stadium. Are those who work in that place telling they can’t get the toxic smell? Right now two rotten vehicles are parked on that wall. They have been there for the longest time.

We don’t like saying this but we should never be surprised to wake up one morning to find that section of the fence in total ruins.

There is a public toilet just a few yards away but the shameless MEN involved in this practice prefer to pour it on the YWCA wall. The dignity of all Sierra Leonean is very badly offended by such behavior. Act Now YWCA.
