TELL THE UK THAT SALONE CAN BE A DEPORTATION CENTER
Rishi Sunak is looking and sounding increasingly confident these days that the first refugee flight will take off from the UK bound for Rwanda in the next TEN WEEKS. It’s been a long battle through the courts and the both houses of parliament. The bill is now heading to the table of KING CHARLES for his signature – a formality.
Barring some catastrophic event not anticipated thus far, Rwanda will soon receive some guests who risked life and limb to enter the UK with all the expectations of living happily ever after only to end up in central Africa. As we went to press reports were coming in of people dying in the Channel trying to reach the UK. We’ll see if the deportation flights will stem the flow of migrants to the shores of the UK.
Sunak desperately needs to get people into the so-called Deportation Center in Rwanda for him to attempt to snatch victory from the jaws of certain defeat in the general election sometime this year. He is late already but there is no harm getting those pictures into the homes of the British people to assure them that the plan to stop the boat people entering Britain from France IS WORKING. A week, they say, is a long time in politics.
There is a lot more to write about this extent of outsourcing political responsibility but for now we want to encourage our government to put in a request for Sierra Leone to be considered as a Deportation Center under this scheme. Why not? We are told Rwanda has already received 240 million pounds from the British treasury and the total payment would rise to 370 million pounds over FIVE years. Sierra Leone can do a lot with money.
1. We can pay all the money we owe to Karpower, ask them to bring a second ship for two years, pay CLSG for two years and still complete all our electricity dam projects. There will still be some change to spray around.
2. Sierra Leone is qualified for consideration – we don’t hunt down and kill political opponents in neighboring countries. We would typically bring them home and try them. We have certainly not misdirected a plane into Lungi Airport so we can arrest and jail a political opponent.
3. Our media is so free that every two kilometers is a newspaper or radio station. Our journalists can say and publish anything, including things they don't know about.
4. We have NEVER asked the BBC to pack up and go even during those few times when we disagree with them on facts and editorial slants.
5. The UN has NEVER accused us of sending our troops into a neighboring country to destabilize them and potentially profit from the riches of our neighbors.
6. A few powerful countries in the world may have issues with our elections but all Sierra Leoneans know that it’s NOT POSSIBLE for any one candidate to win 90% of the votes even if the opposition went around killing people in our cities.
7. We have good government housing in Angola town, occupied mainly by big guys. If we check carefully we will find that some are not paying rents, including EDSA and Guma bills.
8. Above all, we speak comparatively better English here and Sierra Leoneans LOVE strangers. QED.
LET’S GET REAL WITH THIS KARPOWER EMERGENCY THING
We can confirm that the light is back in many areas of the city after the much-publicized SHUT DOWN by the Turkish company, KARPOWER. The fact is that even with Karpower at full 65 kilowatt capacity large parts of Freetown faced undeclared load-shedding but it’s good to have them on again.
The information we have is that we owe them a significant amount of money but there are not definitive figures out there for all to see. We can however confirm that out of a bill of TWELVE million US dollars processed and sent to the Bank of Sierra Leone, Karpower has received FOUR million US dollars. That’s not good enough but it’s a start. While we are limping away with the emergency power thing, let’s make a few points.
Keep in mind that what we are saying now is not based on any political calculations that those in government and opposition would normally make. We are coming at this issue like ordinary Sierra Leoneans who are getting tired with EMERGENCY POWER and the possibility that one day Karpower will run out of patience, damn all negotiations and sail home.
1. We should NEVER have entered into any such emergency power project after the Income Electrix disaster that ended in the courtroom in the days of King Messi.
2. The Green Movement had the perfect opportunity to kill this Karpower thing when they took over in 2018 but they were very scared to tell the people to prepare for darkness while a medium to long term solution was being sought. Same reason they fell to the blackmail at Limkokwing where the government is funding a foreign private university but not those owned and operated by Sierra Leoneans inside Sierra Leone.
3. So, now that we’ve seen what Sierra Leone looks like without 65 megawatts from a ship anchored off-shore, let’s have a plan to do alternatives within a year and at some point scrap the Karpower deal. We can survive for SIX MONTHS at least.
4. While thinking about that, our people should stop STEALING electricity. If we look keenly we will discover that those who have complained the loudest are some of the people stealing supply.
5. As for those destroying EDSA installations, let’s just send them to prison for the rest of their miserable lives.
ABASS BUNDU RETIRES OR RESIGNS THE SPEAKER’S CHAIR
Kothor Abass is gone from frontline politics. We are a little scared saying this because we are dealing with a man who has been all over Sierra Leone politics in different forms since the 70s. It’s possible we will wake up one morning with the next two years to news that he was doing a JACOB ZUMA – launching a political party called PAOPA, yes, the movement that helped bring the Brigadier General to power. Please don’t consider this as newspaper speculation characteristic of what journalists call a SLOW NEWS DAY.
The ANC in South Africa, Nelson Mandela’s party is expecting an unbelievable kicking from the electorate at the end of May. They may have to put together an absolutely ramshackle coalition to remain in government and Jacob Zuma is one of those inflicting that damage on the party he once led as president of that great country.
In Green Movement terms, Korthor Abass cannot be a Jacob Zuma, in other words he is not as grounded in the movement as like Zuma is in the ANC but he may well trigger the kind of discord that the Green Movement cannot afford going into 2028.
From what we know so far, Korthor Abass is listening to his doctors and staying away from the stress of public office but like we said in the beginning, he may spring a little surprise and he has a good number to try and bring over:
1. Obviously, his close friends and family. We are talking about who got jobs, cash and other favors from him while he was Speaker of the HOUSE. That includes our ambassador in Kenya.
2. There are many disgruntled PAOPA people still waiting on the proverbial long bench. They cannot believe what is happening to them in the SIXTH years of this government.
3. The Green Movement has many people that are age mates of Korthor Abass who have been reading social media recently. They have now concluded that they have to fight to remain relevant to the movement as young people take over. They can either fight from within or join Korthor Abass.
Anyway, for now we just want to wish Korthor Abass a happy retirement. This is a good time to write your memoir sir. We suggest the following title: The Long Walk through Four Political Parties and Many Organizations. Copyright © 2024 Politico (29/04/24)
