The second prosecution witness in an ongoing wounding case has told the High Court that his brother (the accused) Mohamed Sankoh stabbed the complainant Idrissa Kamara in his eye and ran away abandoning his knife.

Led in evidence by the State Prosecutor Solomon Christian Kekurah at High Court No.1 in Freetown on Friday 7th July 2023, David Sankoh told the court that the incident happened in the early hours of Thursday 2nd June last year.

According to the witness, the stabbing of the complainant’s eye occurred after the accused had also stabbed him (the witness) on his shoulder as he opened the gate of their compound at 21 Fifth Street off Mountain Cut, for his (the witness) wife who was returning home from work that morning.

The witness said he was about to go to a police station to report that he had been stabbed in the company of the complainant when the accused also stabbed the complainant in his eye at the same gate of their compound. He said the accused attempted to flee but was caught by community youths and taken to the Eastern Police Station.

Under cross examination by a Legal Aid Board Lawyer, Randy Salieu Bangura, the witness told the court that on the night before the incidents the accused threatened to kill somebody. He said there was no confrontation between him and the accused before the stabbings.

The witness said he was inside the compound when the accused stabbed the complainant and he saw him do it because the gate was open.

Mohamed Sankoh is facing two counts of causing grievous bodily harm and wounding with intent.

Justice Adrian Fisher adjourned the case to Friday 14th July while the accused remains on remand.
