The tournament is the African Cup of Nations 2021 (AFCON2021); the host is Cameroun, the land of the indomitable Lions: the city is Douala, the commercial and economic capital of Cameroun; the stadium is the newly constructed 50, 000 capacity (all seater) multi sports complex officially known as Stade Omnisport de Douala (also known as Japoma Stadium); and the team is the Mighty Leone Stars, the darling of Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone religious leaders urged to promote breastfeeding

Religious leaders should use their influence and platforms to help promote the practice of breastfeeding, officials and campaigners appealed on Wednesday.

The appeal was made at a meeting organized for 30 religious leaders from the Kombra Network, mainly Imams and Pastors, as part of the commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2021.

I recently read several commentaries on social media on His Excellency, rtd. Brig. Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s participation in the Global Education Summit in London, United Kingdom. Some of the comments clearly underestimated if not misconstrued President Bio’s determination to fulfill his promises to the People of Sierra Leone, particularly in the education sector. These critics must of necessity understand the character of President Bio before jumping into their ceaseless criticism of his New Direction administration.

Sierra Leone’s Parliament last week abolished the death penalty, which has been an integral part of our legal system since introduced by British colonial rule. The decision had been taken by His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio’s cabinet months earlier and has been awaiting legislative approval. This is a highly progressive development that has added to his human rights accolades since he took power in 2018.
