2016 Innovation Prize for Africa nominees unveiled

The African Innovation Foundation (AIF) has unveiled 10 nominees for its Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) competition.

The nominees who come from a total of five countries presented works that showcases breakthroughs in efforts to tackle public health menaces like malaria, the continent’s food sufficiency drive, and electricity.

IPA, in its fifth year, is an innovation initiative designed to encourage home-grown solutions, with the goal of spurring growth and prosperity on the continent of Africa.

Non-conformity with Assets Declaration in Sierra Leone

There is no gainsaying the fact that the declaration of assets/liabilities by public servants is a splendid idea. But the ugly fact is that the vast majority of those who declare seem to have been regarding the forms with the contempt they do not deserve. Culpatisne eos? (Do you blame them?)

The execution of the laws is obviously more important than their promulgation and this is the Achilles Heel of our governments, past and present. We make room for concessions in galore.

The Australian writer and journalist Karl Kraus once said: "Corruption is worse than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual, the former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country."

The word corruption is derived from a Latin word “corruptus”, which means to break or destroy. Literally, corruption means to break away or depart from morality, ethics and civic virtues. Further explanation of each of these words will give us better understanding and insight.

Invest Sierra Leone, the only annual forum dedicated to encouraging investment into the country, returns on 5 May 2016, according to a statement from the communications person, Memuna Forna.
