Traders, CSO fault Traders’ Union elections results

Some petty traders in the eastern Kono district have protested against last week’s elections results, describing the entire process as “undemocratic, stage-managed and invalid.”

Outside the polling stations, aggrieved traders in their dozens held on to placards with inscriptions “no elections without peace! Peace before elections!” But their calls were ignored and the OSD was called in to disperse them and warn them against coming anywhere beyond one hundred metres from the polling stations.

Pujehun intercepts stolen bed nets

Police in the southern city of Bo say they have intercepted 53 bales of mosquito bednets stolen in Pujehun, Bo and Kambia districts.

The nets were being distributed to people across the country by the ministry of health to help combat malaria.

More Ebola survivors in Sierra Leone

The UN world health organization says four more patients have been discharged from the Ebola treatment centres in the eastern district town of Kenema, bringing the number of discharged patients to 23.

The Ebola virus, which causes severe haemorrhaging and can kill up to 90 per cent of those infected, is spread by direct contact with the blood and body fluids of infected animals or people.

Sierra Leone gov’t urged to invest in education
