Landowners in Kafe Simiria Chiefdom, Tonkolili district have expressed frustrations over the closure by the ministry of mines of gold mining company, Transcend International, for the past seven months.

Community elders, youth groups, together with the chiefdom speaker and a chief of Masingbi town converged on State House in Freetown to express their frustration against the removal of the gold miner the locality.

Guinea has been accepted as 'EITI Compliant' by the international EITI Board at its meeting in Mexico City Wednesday 2 July, 2014. The board, chaired by Clare Short, congratulated the government of Guinea for its sustained commitment and leadership in the implementation of the EITI.

As a country implementing the initiative, Guinea regularly discloses the government's revenues from natural resources. Maintaining compliant status would require that the country meet all requirements in the standardadopted in 2013, including additional disclosure requirements.

Telecommunications company, Africell, has handed out 226 prizes worth over Le103 million to subscribers who took part and won in the on-going ‘play and win’ promotion being held at their offices on Wilberforce.

While he presented the awards chief corporate affairs officer, Joe Abass Bangura Jnr, commended the lucky ones for winning wonderful prizes. He said the promotion was meant to give back to society in different ways.

Police in Kenema say they had to fire teargas to dispatch a crowd of angry youths and family members who had gathered at the government hospital demanding the release of their relatives that reportedly died of Ebola.

Community relations officer of the regional police division, Sergeant 10322 Kamara Prince Jaygboi, confirmed that police intervention helped protect the hospital and medical practitioners who were undersiege.
