Ebola hits AML, LMC shares

Business news agency, Bloomberg, has reported that the recent outbreak of Ebola has caused a sharp drop in shares of British registered iron ore mining companies London Mining Company (LMC) and African Minerals Limited (AML).

LMC declined by 14 percent by close in London yesterday Wednesday 4 June, the lowest since it first sold shares in 2009. AML dropped 7.6 percent, the lowest since April 29, 2009.

Sierra Leone reported its first case of the deadly hemorrhagic fever last week, months after it had wreaked havoc in Guinea and Liberia.

APC throws Sierra Leone bike riders into turmoil

A row has broken out among executive members of the Sierra Leone Bike Riders' Union with some members of the body accusing the ruling All People's Congress party (APC) of "undermining" the operations of the union executive.

Alusine Dumbuya, the national Public Relations Officer told Politico that when they took up office, they did so to represent their membership and serve them properly irrespective of political differences.

House Minority leader of the opposition Sierra Leone People's Party, on Tuesday told the Speaker that she’d observed that members of parliament, especially of her party, would always leave the well while session was on.

Dr. Bernadette Lahai, MP, who sounded livid and appeared worried about the attitude of her colleagues, said they would be blamed if bad bills were passed into laws without the required scrutiny.

Journalists meet Makeni Friday

Over 400 delegates of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists are expected today in the northern provincial headquarter town of Makeni for a two-day annual general meeting which opens tomorrow.

It is the first time the association is holding its annual gathering since the kelvin Lewis-led executive were elected in April last year.

In the last one year, journalists have faced a series of arrests and detention, a period press freedom activists have referred to as the worst attack against the media since the civil war in 2002.
