The Chargé d’Affaires of the US embassy has said in Freetown that all governments have a commitment to uphold freedom of speech which she described as a "fundamental freedom". Kathleen Fitz-Gibbon said "restrictions on journalists are restrictions on all of us in a democracy. Journalists and other members of the media must be able to investigate, research, publish, and disseminate news, information, and opinions freely. They need to be able to do so without intimidation or fear and threat of physical harm".

A thirty-seven year old petty trader is nursing wounds she sustained after an encounter with police officers led by LUC Memunatu Conteh along Kissy road in Freetown. The officers were taking part in an operation to clear traders from the footpath of the road.

Acting General Manager of Sierra Leone Housing Co-operation SALHOC, has told the Public Accounts Committee of parliament that their tenants at OAU Villa at Hill Station and 7th Battalion Estate at Goderich owe the corporation more than 4 billion leones.
Magnus Coker told the Committee which is currently looking into the findings of the Auditor General's report for 2012 that his corporation has been "surviving by God’s grace because he has not been able to pay staff for over four months.
