A new report shows Sierra Leone is among four West African countries way below the risk reduction index that could help more countries assess and reduce the risk of natural hazards and disasters.

Liberia's president to account for $200m

The plenary of the House of Representative in Liberia has asked President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to account for over $200 million her government paid as lobbying fees to foreign firms in the United States of America.

The president denied the allegations, saying it was “preposterous” for anyone to believe that her government could spend such an amount but admitted that only the US firm KRL lobbied on behalf of Liberia from 2007 to 2013 and was paid a little over $368,000.

Kenema to go pipe borne

Chief administrator in the Kenema city council has said that there is a joint project between the town and district councils to get people within the township and its periphery to benefit from pipe borne water.

Daniel Sahr Momoh said there should have been devolution of water resources to the council since 2005 but the country’s water company has was yet to make that possible.

Crab Town fights open defecation

Chairman WASH at Crab Town says the area found in the west end of Freetown was being used for dumping human waste and open defecation, making it vulnerable to cholera outbreaks.

Alhassan Deen Turay, who heads the water and sanitation advocacy group, WASH, lamented the state of affairs that was made worse by the nonexistence of water supply.

CFN schools on Child Rights Acts 2007

With funds from the Decentralization Service Delivery Project, DSDP, the ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs has trained about 25children on the 2007 Child Rights Act at the Kono District Youth complex in Koidu.

The children were drawn from their own child-to-child advocacy organisation, Children’s Forum Network, CFN, to empower them with the Actsso that they could advocate for the rights and responsibilities of children in the fourteen chiefdoms of the district.

More completed projects for SALWACO

Minister of Water Resources, Hon. Momodu Maligie, has stated that his ministry has completed far more projects since 2002.

He made this statement whiles speaking at the confirmation ceremony of the Sierra Leone Water Company’s (SALWACO), new Director General, last Friday in Freetown.
