IMF to disburse $20.8 million to Sierra Leone

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to approve Sierra Leone’s Economic Performance under the Extended Credit Facility Programme by triggering an immediate disbursement of about US$20.8 million.

This was disclosed in a joint press release by the Ministry of Finance, Bank of Sierra Leone and National Revenue Authority on the 5th of June 2023.

Bio praises Sierra Leone’s UN Security Council return

President Julius Maada Bio in a tweet, reacting to the overwhelming voting of Sierra Leone’s membership into the UN  Security Council says it’s a testament to his Government’s transformation of the country’s  “international reputation and standing ‘’, and “immense foreign policy gains’’ over the last five years.

He said the country’s return to the council is a “generational accomplishment’’ and a “unique success as a democratic and peaceful country of resilience and unbounded optimism’’.

Aki-Sawyerr failed Freetown in sanitation – Independent challenger chides

Ms. Seray Kabba a Mayoral candidate for Freetown in the upcoming elections has at the 2023 Mayoral Debate claimed that outgone Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Swayer’s administration failed to tackle issues of sanitation in the capital city during her tenure of office.

Low legal reps for juvenile – Bar Association President

The President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) Eddinia Michaela Swallow says there is low legal representation for juveniles in conflict with the law, and urged colleagues to provide pro-bono services for the children in remand homes in order for them to get quick access to justice.

Sierra Leone Gov’t pays examination fees to WAEC

An estimated sum of NLE 45,192,624 (Forty-five million, one hundred and ninety-two thousand, six hundred and twenty-four New Leones) has been forwarded to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as Examination Fees for the ongoing 2023 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

COPP declares support for APC

Ahead of the forthcoming June 24th General Elections in the country, the Consortium of Progressive Political Parties (COPP) has declared its support for the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara.

The declaration was held at the Robert Hall at Robert Street in Freetown on the 8 June 2023.
