Ahmadiyya Mission impresses Bio

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Sierra Leone ended their 58th annual conference in Bo on Sunday and by his admission they wowed president Julius Maada Bio who was their guest of honour. 

The three-day event at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School ground hosted more than two thousand Ahmadis both from Sierra Leone and other parts of the world.

Mayors to leave office

As the June 2023 elections approach, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) has in a letter dated 8th February, 2023 notified Sierra Leone‘s Mayors, District Chairpersons and Councilors to vacate their offices effective 1st March, 2023.

The ministry also instructed them to do a comprehensive handing over of their offices to the Chief Administrators accordingly.

New Statistician General commits to deliver

The incoming Statistician General of Statistics Sierra Leone, Andrew Bob Johnny has committed to deliver in his new role in the institution and urged staff to continue working with him as before.

He made this statement at a press conference organized at the institution’s Headquarters in Freetown  in response to social media posts claiming his predecessor Professor Osman Sankoh was sacked.

In his statement, Johnny noted that his former boss was never dismissed but successfully ended his tenure of office. 

New Fintec platform launched

In an effort to simplify financial services in the country, an Information Communications Technology company, Monime which deals with financial technology or (Fintec) has launched a new platform dubbed the Next-generation aimed at revolutionising payment processing services in Sierra Leone.

The platform was launched on the 10th February, 2023 at the institution’s Hill side bye-pass Road office in Freetown.

10 sentenced for loitering

Magistrate Isata  Sellu-Tucker, of Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown  has sentenced Francis Mansaray, Alhaji Sheriff, and eight others to one month imprisonment  or pay a fine of NLe 500(five hundred Leones)   after they all pleaded guilty of committing loitering offence at Safecon Lumley in Freetown, at about 20:37 hours of Tuesday 7th February 2023.

 All 10 accused immediately pleaded guilty to the Public Order Act offence on Friday 10th February 2023 after their file was read out to them.

Sierra Leone president keeps his vice as running-mate

President Julius Maada Bio has put to rest the much debated issue of his running mate in the June 24th Elections after he announced to an ecstatic crowd of ruling party supporters that he will seek his re-election bid with Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh alongside him.

Some were so overwhelmed with emotion yesterday and literally cried at the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) closing session of a two-day Delegates Conference at Bintumani Hotel in the West of Freetown.

President Bio calls for his party to close ranks

At a jam-packed Bintumani Conference hall in Freetown on Wednesday, President Julius Maada Bio has appealed to party supporters to close ranks, ahead of the June elections.

Addressing a two-day Delegates Conference of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) aimed at reviewing his manifesto achievements and drawing up a new one that he is to take to the voters, he said differences that emanated after their district and regional elections must be buried for good.
