FCC MAYOR HAS LOST HER WAY WITH STREET BEGGING
In her early days in office our Smiling Mayor Kemokai tried to do something about the hundreds of beggars on our streets especially those near the Cotton Tree in central Freetown. That project showed a few signs of success but quickly went into oblivion. Four years on, Smiling Mayor Kemokai has completely lost control of whatever she initiated – the people are still around the Cotton Tree, in fact their numbers have increased.
Today we want to shine the light of Kissy Road, to the east of our great city. We are talking about the area just after the junction of Mountain Cut heading to Bombay Street. This place is now flooded with street beggars who most times relieve themselves in the gutter nearby. So it started with a few people and our Mayor took no action, we now have a small colony of beggars doing everything on that main link between central and eastern Freetown.
The blind beggars who are normally known to hang around that place as they search for food have now been overthrown by able-bodied men and women that should be doing something with their hands to put food on their table and they have children that should be in school with them. Where is Mayor Kemokai in all this?
Our Smiling Mayor goes around the world talking about her so-called TRANSFORM FREETOWN project. On the eve of facing the voters once again, she has encouraged a breeding ground for disease in the heart of Freetown. Smiling Mayor Kemokai’s transformation is taking place on social media with her target being a section of the diaspora community of which she is an integral part.
We live the reality of the Freetown she has created over the last four years. The good people of Freetown will reward her in June 2023.
THE PRESIDENT WITH PLENTY MONEY IN HIS SOFA
If Cyril Ramaphosa stays in office as president of Madiba country by the end of this week, the damage to the great ANC in the 2024 election would be huge because it’s beginning to look like some kind of coalition would win and send Madiba’s party into opposition. We are saying this now without even thinking people might call us crazy because such a thought looked totally impossible only a few years ago. Some in the ANC think keeping the guy in office helps their case. They are wrong. They have an opportunity now to send the man home immediately or do it at their party conference in the coming days. If Ramaphosa continues in office after that conference the ANC will be in deep trouble in 2024. There are some in that movement who can see the political danger heading their way but they may not have enough numbers to throw Ramaphosa out.
We know that the report is not a ruling of the Supreme Court, in other words it’s not the last word on the issue but clearly, this president cannot continue in office even as impeachment papers are being prepared.
This man had FOUR MILLION dollars stuffed in a sofa in his farm house. What was he doing with so much money in that place? Are there no banks in South Africa? Was he keeping it out of the banking system to avoid a trace? How did Ramaphosa handle the situation after the money was stolen? Why did it have to take the nation’s intelligence chief to speak out as a way of getting back at Ramaphosa for touching his interests?
Here’s a man who came to power vowing to clean up the corruption of the Zuma years now carrying this Albatross call the Phala Phala incident around his neck. Zuma and his people are now having a good laugh. The whole thing about state capture has been overshadowed by Phala Phala. This is the name of the Farm where the FOUR MILLION US dollar bundle was stolen.
Why did King Charles invite this guy to pay a state visit to his country?
MBSSE CLOSING LOOPHOLES TO SAVE WAEC’S CREDIBILITY
We have heard a lot of complaints about some of the new prerequisites announced by MBSSE for prospective WASSCE candidates. Many candidates, their parents and even school authorities are not happy. This is not the column where we go into the gory details of those announcements. All we just want to say here is that anything done to clean up this WASSCE thing is good and we should all support it.
Our Children, ably assisted by criminal agents have found a way of making a mess of WAEC and we have evidence to prove that some school authorities are complicit. How many school authorities have been arrested in recent times organizing so-called SPECIAL ROOMS to cheat in public exams?
1. We have found it incomprehensible that a WASSCE would travel from say, Bo, Kenema and Mile and join a study camp outside Waterloo to take the exam in one of the schools in that area. We are talking about people who are leaving their home districts for the first time. Why? What’s so special about that place in the Waterloo general area?
2. Parents would provide the money for their children to join those camps with all the risks around the whole idea. They would even give them enough cash to meet the requirements of the SPECIAL ROOM.
3. We have also witnessed children who are two years away from the legal requirement to take the WASSCE going round the process and taking their chances before they are academically prepared to take it. And the taxpayer foots the bill. We don’t approve of tax money being spent in that way.
We urge MBSSE to continue pressing these measures home. The idea that everything in this country should be corrupted must be discouraged. We want hard work and fair competition.
THE GRUDGE MATCH BETWEEN GHANA AND URUGUAY
The two countries were keen to convince the world that their World Cup encounter last Friday was not a grudge match as framed by ordinary people on the streets of their capital and indeed the world media but a real grudge match it was. In the end Uruguay beat Ghana by two goals to nil but the South Americans failed to qualify because South Korea beat Portugal with the result sending both countries through to the last SIXTEEN.
There was no repeat of the Suarez version of THE HAND OF GOD but Dede Ayew missed a penalty for Ghana in the opening period of the match. Suarez was up to his normal tricks – complaining about every referee decision that went against his team. Having played for some of the biggest clubs in the world Suarez should be ashamed of himself. He makes a nuisance of himself in front of the camera all the time. He should simply return home now and result because his playing career in the big leagues is over.
We’re told that some in Accra celebrated when South Korea scored their winning goal. That’s the goal that nailed Uruguay to the cross of defeat for another four years.
We congratulate Ghana on their performance. The new team is showing a lot of promise as preparations for the next AFCON is due to get underway soon. We are sorry Otto Addo is leaving. We urge the Ayew brothers to also retire. They’ve done their best for Ghana but it’s now time to go.
