Varsity students support less privileged in Sierra Leone

By Chernor Alimamy Kamara

As a way of charity to the needy during the Holy Month of Ramadan,  members of Empirex, a social club  at the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH) have supported 100 (one hundred) less privileged with food stuff.

The recipients were given rice, onions, tomato tins, and other cooking condiments.

The donation was done along Kissy Road on Friday 14th April, 2023.

During the presentation of the items, the Head of the Empirex club at UNIMTECH, Kandeh Osaio Sesay noted that the donation was to help those who could not afford their daily bread during the Holy month of Ramadan.

He vowed that with the proactive and hardworking club executive and its elders, they hope to continue with the same venture and take up other humanitarian initiatives in society.

“This shows that the organization and its executive plan to continue helping the less privileged for them to feel belonged in society,” he said.

Sesay stressed that the group is an apolitical university club that is determined to encourage its members on their educational pursuit. He allayed the fears of everyone that a university club is not an aspect of cultism, but rather a group of intellectuals that means well for the development of the country.

He encouraged other university clubs and philanthropists to come to the aid of the less privileged in their localities.

Jemilatu Sheriff, head of ELrex Club which is the female wing of the Empirex  said before joining the club, she had been told that the club would disrupt her studies . According to her, she realized the contrary and that it has instead improved her knowledge and made her to be bold among her colleagues.

She added that the club trains young girls by preparing their minds after leaving university. She said the donation was the start of many help they have in place and that the current one will serve as a blessing for the club since it was done during the holy month of Ramadan.

Aminata Sesay who was one of the beneficiaries said that she felt good and relieved after receiving the items, saying that she will utilize it to feed her family at home. She prayed for the donors’ elevation and that they will continue having in mind the less privileged as they have started doing.  She made a plea to other philanthropists to come to their aid as she said it is difficult for them to make ends meet.

Empirex, according to its members, aims at promoting education and students’ socialization in the university.
