The Secretary-General of the governing All people’s Congress party, Victor Bockarie Foh has told Politico that his party will no longer hold its national delegates conference in Kono as was announced at the Makeni Conference in 2009 and maintained until now. He said the congress would now hold in Freetown but that no firm date had been agreed by the National Advisory Council (NAC). He however went on that it would happen “between April and May and most probably at the Miatta Conference Centre”. Asked what the reason for the change of venue was, Foh said they had decided to hold a “low key” event because they were just from an election which he said had eaten into their finances and the energy of their supporters. “We need more money for the rainy day” he said. The APC secretary general was quick to point out though that the Freetown convention would not take any major decisions such as electing the leader of the party. That, he said, would be done at the next convention which he said should take place in three years at the earliest, with the possibility of the NAC postponing it. He was circumspect as to whether or not that conference will take place in Kono. Even though he agreed that Kono should host it in view of the fact that it would not be hosting this year’s, Foh said that the NAC could decide otherwise. This shift in venue comes amid a heated political rancor among some Kono members of the party.
