A man facing preliminary investigation for murder has told principal magistrate Ngegba in Freetown that the police conducted a search of his mother’s house and his vehicle without a warrant.
Led in evidence by his lawyer Hindolo Gevao, the accused, Mohamed Lamin told the court that before his arrest, he had some money in foreign currencies including 16,000 (sixteen thousand Euros), £800 (eight hundred British pounds), $ 1,100 (One thousand one hundred United States dollars) and Le 5,100,000 (five million one hundred thousand old Leones) which he said he handed over to the two police officers.
He said the monies were kept in a Nissan Rogue vehicle with registration number: ATX 141, which he drove to Kambia.
Lawyer Gevao then applied for the prosecution to tender the monies and vehicle taken from the second accused at the time of his arrest.
The second accused also told the court that on the day before his arrest on the 27th of March this year, he dropped off his friends at a place called Lodge at Brookfields after the Saint Edwards Secondary School Thanksgiving ceremony. He said at around 12 midnight, he left for Wilberforce before departing for Kambia where he was arrested in connection with the alleged murder case.
Lawyer Gevao had earlier told the court that the police prosecution insisted on charging the case to court even after the law officers department had told them that there wasn’t sufficient evidence to proceed with the case.
Mohamed Lamin and two others are being investigated on two counts of conspiracy and murder. Police say Samuel Abubakarr was murdered at Woodlands Estate in Freetown.
