Ibrahim Kalokoh a herbalist, ordinarily resident at Shebora Town, Newton in the general area of Waterloo in rural Freetown appeared again before Magistrate Mark Ngegba on Wednesday 26th July charged with the murder of FBC Lecturer Kabba Santigie Bangura whose corpse was discovered in the house of the herbalist.
The head of the Newton Police Station, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alieu Jalloh, testified that he was on duty at the Police Station, when he received intelligence in respect of the discovery of the unidentified corpse in the house of the accused.
Led in by the top lawyer in the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Joan M.S. Bull, the police witness said when he entered the house he realized that in one of the rooms, there were locally made mattresses. He said he removed the mattresses and a shovel and then discovered an adult covered under the mattress.
From that point he said he alerted the Local Unit Commander Unit Commander (LUC) at Waterloo and then filed the corpse and posted the film on social media to help with the identification of the body.
The witness said a few days later, some people presumed to be relatives of the deceased, went to the LUC, and were directed to the house to identify the corpse, noting that police were deployed to guard the house.
According to him upon arrival one of the relatives, Alie Bangura burst into tears after seeing the corps and they were then joined by a team of police personnel from headquarters in Freetown for further investigation.
Bangura was a lecturer at the Geography Department at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone who went missing on the 6th of March. According to report from the college, the lecturer was on campus that day but later left without trace until his remains were found in the shrine of the accused.
The case resumes on 2nd August 2023.
