In a bid to enhance the efficiency of key staff, the administration of the University of Sierra Leone on Monday, 14th August handed over Tablets to the Deputy Registrars of its three constituent colleges for onward distribution to all Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments and other key administrative staff members including those at the School of Postgraduates Studies and the eLearning Centre.
Presenting the Tablets to Mrs. Olive Kash Barrie, Registrar of the University, the Vice-Chancellor, and Principal, Brig. Gen. Prof. Foday Sahr said that the gesture was done against the backdrop that some HoDs and Deans of Faculties have reported the lack of basic tools to execute their functions effectively and efficiently, especially those responsibilities that relate to the use of the University’s portal system.
He went on to say that the tablets are meant to enhance the work of key administrative staff members involved with the online admission process as the University positions itself to accommodate a large number of qualified applicants that are preparing to enroll at USL for the next academic year - a challenge which he said had been thrown by the government to administrators of public universities in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor and Principal also use the occasion to inform academic staff members that submission of all grades must be done by the 31st of August so that the University would be better prepared to resume the next academic year in accordance with its traditional calendar, which begins in the first Saturday of October, adding that the University Congregation should revert to its traditional month of December, “all things being equal”.
He also admonished recipients of the Tablets, which are connected to a 4G internet service to use the equipment for their intended purposes.
