The Sierra Leone Single leg Amputee Sports Club (SLASC) has concluded its third nation-wide football league in Kenema.Five clubs from Kailahun, Bo, Makeni and the host district took part in the week-long football gala which attracted fans, stakeholders and representatives of the sponsors including Africell.
The President of SLASC, Jabati Mambu said the tournament was aimed at developing the technical capacity of the players and to prepare a formidable side to compete against other countries. “It has further added value in terms of experience sharing and building each other’s hope and confidence,” he said.
Authur Kallonof Africell said his company is responding to its corporate social responsibility and notedthat the tournament helped participants develop and learn new skills in sports development and commended the players for their good performance.
MahmoudSamai, General Secretary of Amputee Football Federation of Africa – AFFA and also Programme Coordinator of Single Leg Amputee Sports Association – SLASA emphasised the importance of the event and cautioned officials to select their national teams on the basis of fitness, discipline and team spirit.
The Amputee Africa Nations’ Cup takes place in Kenya later this year.
