The Sierra Leone Swimming Association (SLSA) has started a ten-day training course for swimmers in Freetown and the provinces which started on 19 May and will end on 28 May 2013.
The course expert, Mario Franchi who is also head coach of the Italian Swimming Association said that he was happy to be in Sierra Leone for the first time to train swimmers, noting that during the course swimmers would learn a lot especially about the basic skills of swimming and other important aspects involved of the sport.
The course idea he said was to develop people out of swimming and make them better sports personalities in the country.
‘’I hope to give swimmers part of my 30-year experience in Swimming” he said, adding: “with the structure I have outlined to the technical director for swimmers I surely believe that Sierra Leone will take part in Brazil 2015 Olympic games.”
He thanked the executive of the swimming association for their hospitality and promised to be back in July 2013 to continue with the training.
The Technical Director of SLSA Victor Carew said “this course has revived swimming in Sierra Leone, as we are a decentralized association, we have already secured regional offices in the North, South and East respectively”. He said three Swimmers have already qualified for the Barcelona Games later this year.
