The parliamentary oversight committee on finance and development has ended a six-day working visit to the southeast of Sierra Leone where they monitored district and city councils and their related sectors. It took them to Bo, Pujehun and Kenema. The committee observed that all councils visited and sectors working under them such as health, education and agriculture, documentation and records were in place but the yearly roll for 2011 and 2012 finances were a bit difficult to account for. In an interview with Politico the committee chairman Hassan Sheriff said that he was impressed by the councils and sectors working under them. He noted that his committee previewed all documents presented to them by the councils which he said were “checked and crosschecked”. He called on government and its development partners to increase training for these sector to manage their finances and records very well. (C) Politico 25/07/13
