Minister of education has revealed plans to go after some 971 teachers, headmasters and principals across the country and force them to retire because most of them are five years over their retirement age, which is 60 years.
Dr. Minkailu Bah told a press conference at his New England Ville office in Freetown that by September they would have completed the exercise, saying it was wrong that they were still collecting salaries.
He promised that by next month they would have completed working on their retirement packages and gratuities but “we will be verifying about 200 of that figure, because there are some irregularities in their documents”.
Dr. Bah claimed that some of the irregularities in the documents ranged from differences in dates on their birth certificates, their NASSIT forms and the information supplied when interviewed by the consultants.
National secretary general of the Sierra Leone Teachers’ Union, Davidson Kuyateh said they were part of the committee set up by the ministry to look into the possible retirement process and promised that if they were not satisfied two weeks into the process they would come out and take a position.
