The head of the internal police disciplinary mechanism, CDIID has disclosed to Politico that 22 police officers were presently being investigated for various categories of misconduct.
Amongst them is the wife of AIG Mustapha Kamara, ASP Fatmata Kamara who served in the R and R unit of the UN mission in Darfur and was said to have been involved in some misconduct.
Police Superintendent Shyllon was responding to an investigation by Politico to a report that ASP Kamara was avoiding disciplinary proceedings because she was the wife of a senior police officer and sister to the wife of the Inspector General of Police.
Shyllon said it was unfair for anyone to think that the ASP would not be investigated “because she is the wife of an AIG and a sister-in-law to the IG”, adding that the husband, having signed the investigation order, refused to do the investigation himself because he was compromised in the matter.
He said the officers had all been suspended with half of their salaries withheld while investigations were ongoing.
However, he said the outcome of the investigation was the prerogative of the people that would eventually look into the content of the investigation “which I have already sent to the IG”.
If cleared, he said, she and 21 others might claim their half salaries “which they may get back”.
