Women Caucus prexy wants more for women, girls

President of Sierra Leone's Parliamentary Women’s Caucus, Patricia Brown, MP, says more needs to be done to achieve the UN millennium development goals for women and girls, according to a release from the House.

Browne, of Constituency 37 in Kambia District was among hundreds of delegates attending a recent UN Conference in New York on the status of women.

The conference drew attention to the need for the training in science and technology, access to education as well as full employment and decent work for women.

She expressed "grave concern over violations of women’s sexual rights", noting the importance of protecting women’s access to sexual and reproductive health rights.

As Caucus President, Browne said their role as women MPs was an important channel for advocacy for school girls.

Delegates from over 100 countries attended the UN conference which was hosted by UN Women and ECOSOC.
