TOP 5 BEST Sierra Leone Rap Verses 2011
Jasper P. Sembie recently released his five best top rap verses in the country whose condition he said made it difficult for him to give an opinion on songs as many dope tracks were released in 2011. He said, a song might be very good but none of its verses, in isolation, is outstanding. He cautioned that it would be considered that as his choices are considered, and one thinks he is crazy, “go and check out these songs yourselves and feel free to raise your contention”.
Jasper lamented that he tried his best to consider all songs made available by the emcees and reserve the right to ignore every song that was not released in 2011. Also, he had a few artists sending him songs after noticing that he was compiling the verses but he ignored them.
Here goes his review:
5th - Shadowwaf Boxer - Fly Again
Shadow delivers skillfully on Movado's Fly Again. He combines his multiple pace and delivery with awesome punch lines. A truly ground-breaking verse. When it comes to delivery, Shadow is the best in the game. By the way, I play this song so much that my chick knows it word-for-word.
4th - Kao Denero - I Pledge - 2nd Verse
Lyricism at its best. Kao explores the culture and history of Sierra Leone as he convinces people of the beauty of the land and effectively portrays the best of SL in the most exquisite lyrical outlay.
3rd - Supa Laj Turay - Moment for Life (Freestyle)
Punch line after Punch line, Supa Laj leaves rap-heads in awe as he delivers flawlessly in this straight-verse rendition of Nicki Minaj's. Although he calls his name like 200 times in this verse, it's truly a song worth putting on repeat.
2nd - Kao Denero - 2nd Verse - Proud To Be African
Considering the high level lyricism on the concept of Pan-Africanism, this verse is outstanding in its bid to paint the true picture of Africa and in condemning the negative publicity and misconceptions. Even when you take the verse out of the song, what you get is heavyweight lyricism. Lyricism is Kao’s stronghold and no SL artist has explored in depth, more concepts than him.
1st - Supa Laj Turay - Homeless (Shadow Boxxer Diss)
I can't stress enough on how deep and classic this straight-verse song graced the year 2011. If you haven't heard this song you're missing out on the best SL rap battle of all time. Supa Laj nailed Shadow with this joint, straight to the heart.
Homeless is in the class of Nas' Ether.
